I am a photographer based on South Australia’s beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula and I love photographing South Australia’s wild places. To have the coasts of the Southern Ocean as my subject is an incredible privilege but I don’t want to be selfish about that good fortune – I want my images to inspire people to raise awareness of these stunning places appreciate these places and conserve them. Photography provides an infinite range of emotional and artistic discovery, which for me never seems to diminish. Photography is a kind of escapism – a slowing-down and a concentration of finer instincts. It’s a heightened state, addictive and nourishing, and it keeps me coming back for more. When in the field my photography is subtly influenced by years of work experience in environmental science, printing and graphic arts fields.

I believe in treading lightly and preserving the environments that form the focus of my work. Sharing those fragile places with a wider audience is part of that approach. The forest, beach and those delicate places: these things, and not our individual assets, are the treasures we ultimately pass on to our descendants.

I have been fortunate enough to have my photographs feature in publications such as Australian Geographic Magazine and Tourism boards across Australia and have been a finalist in several international awards such as Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year and the EPSON International Panoramic awards.

Beyond landscape photography, since becoming a father I have begun to understand the importance of photography as a tool to capture life’s most precious moments. When not chasing the light amongst our beautiful landscapes,I have been thrilled to combine my love of natural light and people to capture their special moments.

Please take the time to enjoy and immerse yourself in my work.

I would love to hear from you with any enquiries or questions.

Thanks

Darren
